The Moscow State Art Gallery of Ilya Glazunov comprises two expositions in two separate buildings: one is the gallery of paintings by the world-famous artist Ilya Glazunov, and the other is the Museum of Russian Estates created by Ilya Glazunov based on his personal art collection. It includes a musical hall, a space for public lectures, discussions, conferences and concerts.
During the tour you will learn about Glazunov's early works, his academic works created at the Leningrad Secondary Art School and the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture, that were presented at the artist's first exhibition in Moscow in 1957.
The graphic works of Ilya Glazunov, author of hundreds of illustrations for classic literary works, have long become a part of Russia's artistic legacy. Visitors will see some of them, including pictures illustrating works of Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Alexander Blok.
Ilya Glazunov is famous for his wonderful cycle titled 'The City' (1950s–1960s). It is a series of graphic and painted works. It is filled with a feeling of loneliness in a crowd, thoughts of different sides and states of a human soul. It is a diary of sorts, with his personal artistic notes about the life that we all live.
At the tour, the viewers will learn about the late period in work of Ilya Glazunov. The paintings dated back to 1990s–2010s are among the most curious in the maestro's legacy.
At the tour you will see Ilya Glazunov's famous paintings — Russian Beauty, Ivan the Terrible, Prince Dimitry, and others. He used a mixed technique for them — a special method of 'inlay' he invented: a combination of materials to meet his artistic goals.
At the 'Artist and the World' exhibition the audience will learn about a photo chronicle of life and work of Ilya Glazunov, starting from his childhood and up to his last years in the 21st century.
